My Animals

November 2007 sucked. All of my snakes except 2 died because of faulty house thermostat. I was gone over an entire weekend and the thermostat did not kick off all weekend. On Sunday night around 10 pm when we returned from a family holiday gathering the basement floor was over 105 degrees Fahrenheit and all the adult snakes were upstairs in an extra bedroom. The hatchling and new snakes were in the basement. Upstairs the Rubbermaid containers were almost too hot to pick up and downstairs in the basement the hatchlings were all next to the furnace and thus mush, more than cooked. No pictures of any of this because of how pissed and upset I was. I can tell you the smell was horrific.

On top of the snakes dieing I also lost a trio of spotted turtles, 1 musk turtle, 3 three-striped mud turtles, 3 hatchling normal snappers, and finally my newly acquired leopard tortoise hatchling.

Lesson learned from this affair. Keep all of your reptiles in a separate building if possible. In the mean time I am going to stay close to home and not gone more than a day until an outside building is built.
