Leopard Tortoise
Geochelone pardalis babcocki
New pics
Both female and male taken 03/30/10
Female
She is dirty from being mounted by the male. He mounts her almost eveyday and she lays about 30 eggs over the course of the summer and fall.
These first 3 are the female. She is not sick, the discharge from her snout is water. She just finished drinking from the water dish in the background.
Here she is laying eggs this past season 2009
Male
These remaining pics are from when I first got the female in 2006.
After 2 months she is still scared of me. I guess that long memory will be hard to erase!!
I am not going to say what the date is because this will be a months work in progress probably.
Anyway, the measurements are 6 * 4 with a 9 in wall all the way around.
The board over the bottom corner will be the top of the hide area.
I will be lining the inside hopefully with pond liner, if I can get it. It is january!!
I will be putting a water area on one end and inside the hide area I will be putting a plastic container in the floor with peat moss in it for a moist hide!!
The final touches will be 2 shop lights and a basking light.
